Why CapCut shows Network Error on PC
The desktop version of CapCut checks your region when it starts. If the check fails, the app never loads its effects, templates or sign-in screen — you only see the network error. Your internet is fine; CapCut simply will not talk to you from where you are.
That is why restarting the app, reinstalling it, changing DNS or turning the firewall off do not help. The only thing that changes the outcome is where CapCut thinks you are connecting from.
The fix, step by step
- Open vpngate.net and pick any server that supports SSTP or L2TP/IPsec. Note its IP address.
- In Windows, open Settings → Network & Internet → VPN → Add VPN.
- Provider: Windows (built-in). Server name: the IP you copied. VPN type: match the server (SSTP or L2TP/IPsec).
- Click Connect.
- If Windows asks for a username and password: type
vpnin the username field, leave the password blank, and click OK. Do not cancel and retry — that is the step most guides get wrong. - Open CapCut. It loads normally. Effects and templates work immediately.
- Once CapCut is open, disconnect the VPN.
One safety note
VPN Gate is a public academic project run by the University of Tsukuba in Japan. It is free and needs no signup or card, but the servers are volunteer-run. Connect only to open CapCut, do not sign in to banking, email or anything else while connected, and disconnect as soon as CapCut opens.
